Becetto is a small village high on the side of the the Varaita Valley slightly off the beaten tourist path. The name is actually the Italian form, the original one in Occitan is "Lou besset", it means "the wood of the birch-trees". Sometimes you find places almost unknow today that were widely known in the past, and this is one.
The village church is from 1200 and was a famous site in a long holy trail of Marian Sanctuaries in all Piedmont. They had a statue of a "black Mary" which was stolen during last century, so it lost its status.

Some fifty houses maybe, surrounded by a landscape with many hiking trails, which becomes oustanding when the Autumn warm colours mix with the deep mountain green. Here you can find some examples of it, hope you'll enjoy.
